In my role at reflexblue as a Digital Developer, I was asked to redesign and develop a website domain that was purchased by the company. The objective of this website was to promote and sell SMS packages tailored specifically for businesses, enabling them to enhance their communication strategies and engage effectively with their target audience.

Project Overview

The Task

The current website that was being used was very basic and not user-friendly for businesses looking to use the service. I worked alongside a graphic designer who created the brand guidelines and logo which meant I was able to go ahead and redesign the website and it’s functionality. I was given full creative control and three months to complete the project. I drew initial designs on paper and pencil, and then recreated them as wireframes within Figma and ultimately used HTML and CSS on Sublime Text to create the website. 

Functionalities 

  1. Clear and Engaging Design: The website should have a visually appealing design, incorporating appropriate branding elements, and utilising high-quality images and graphics to capture the attention of visitors.
  2. Package Comparison: Provide a comparison chart or tool to allow businesses to compare different SMS packages side by side, facilitating their decision-making process.
  3. Customisation Options: Offer flexibility in package customisation, allowing businesses to tailor their SMS plans based on factors like message volume, target audience, and frequency of communication.
  4. Mobile Responsiveness: Ensure the website is optimised for mobile devices, as businesses may access it from various devices, including smartphones and tablets.
  5. Seamless Purchase Flow: Implement a streamlined checkout process, with clear instructions and minimal steps, reducing friction and maximising conversion rates.
  6. Testimonials and Case Studies: Display customer testimonials and case studies to build credibility and demonstrate the positive impact of the SMS packages on businesses.
  7. Contact and Support Channels: Provide multiple channels for customers to contact support, such as a dedicated support email, live chat, or a phone helpline, to address any questions or concerns promptly.
  8. Resources and FAQs: Offer a comprehensive FAQ section and resources that provide additional information, best practices, and guidelines for businesses to optimise their SMS communication strategies.

Target Audience

The target audience for the website included small, medium, and large businesses across various industries. These businesses ranged from startups and local enterprises to established companies seeking to optimise their communication channels. The primary stakeholders were marketing managers, communication professionals, and business owners responsible for implementing marketing campaigns and customer engagement strategies.

The Process

The project kicked off with the conceptualisation phase, during which I sketched initial designs on paper. This hands-on approach allowed me to explore different visual concepts and user flows before committing to the digital realm. These sketches were then translated into comprehensive wireframes using Figma, a collaborative design tool that facilitated seamless communication with the graphic designer and other stakeholders involved.

Having been entrusted with full creative control, I found the freedom exhilarating yet demanding. It challenged me to blend aesthetics with functionality while adhering to the brand guidelines. The collaboration with the graphic designer was crucial in ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing website that resonated with the brand’s identity.

The transition from wireframes to the actual website involved coding using HTML and CSS on Sublime Text. This phase demanded meticulous attention to detail to ensure that the design seamlessly translated into a fully functional and responsive website. Challenges arose, as they often do in such projects, but overcoming them proved to be an invaluable learning experience.

Outcomes

Upon completion of the project, the website underwent testing to ensure a smooth user experience across various devices and browsers. The redesigned website not only met but exceeded the initial objectives. Its enhanced user-friendliness and visually appealing design contributed to a significant increase in user engagement and conversion rates. The revamped platform now serves as a powerful tool for businesses to bolster their communication strategies.

The Final Product

Reflecting on this project, I am proud of the collaborative effort that went into transforming a basic website into a dynamic and effective tool for businesses. The experience reinforced the importance of collaboration, creative freedom, and technical expertise in web development projects. This case study serves as a testament to the positive impact a well-executed redesign can have on a brand’s online presence and business outcomes.
